Annual Firefighters Appreciation Dinner date is set
   
The Rutherford Fire Annual Firefighters Appreciation Dinner will be held Sunday February 26th at the Wharf on Derry street. 

All participants are requested to be at the Wharf by 5:00 p.m.

Make sure you sign up at the station.  Pre-registration is required.


 
Squad responds to assist Company 48

Early Saturday morning (approx. 3:30 am.) Squad 45, along with Air 41 & Truck 456 were dispatched to assist Company 48 at a major structure fire at Briarcrest Garden apartments.  Squad 45 (w/5) reported to manpower where they were given various assignments before being released.  For more pics and info visit Capitalcity fire or Hershey Fire website.

Vehicle Accident w/ Fire

This morning Engine & Sqaud 45 with the assistance of E456 & R49 responded to a Vehicle accident with Fire at Grayson & Milroy Rds. While enroute Chief-2 was given an update and  requested E456 as the 2nd engine.  Upon arrival of E45 two (2) vehicles were found well involved.  The engine crew of 5 quickly pulled 2 attack lines and went to work.  E456 pulled a additional line while R49 supplied E45 with additional water.

Crews were on the scene approx. 45 mins.


 
Santa visits the Rutherford Area

Today the Firefighters from Company 45 loaded up the sleigh (and equipment) and traveled thru the streets of Rutherford with Santa.  Santa showed off his new ride, and handed treats to all the neighborhood children...Thanx Santa, and everyone who helped make todays run a success.

For the past 2 weeks some of the guys at the station were kept busy building a new ride for Santa.  Santa ended up with a larger more comfortable sleigh to ride around Rutherford in.  Thanx to everyone who gave up their time, and Thank you to Station 21 for some really good ideas.

With the tempatures falling, now is the time to have your fire place chimney inspected if you haven't already.  Also use Electric  space heaters, and Kerosene heaters safely.  Never place them against a wall or around flammable items.

Building Improvements Completed.!

2011 brought many building improves to Station 45.  The following enhancements were done to the bldg.

Dauphin County Gaming Grant helped completed the following projects:  Emergency Generator, New Entrance doors (3), Stone work & Bollards in front of the station.

D.C.E.D. Grant purchased: New Heaters for the Equipment Bay.

State Firefighters Grant: New interior Walls in Equipment Bay.

Generous Donation:  New Messege Board in front of the station

Mailer Fund Drive: Enables the company to maintain & purchase fire equipment. 

Thank you to everyone who supports us financially, without your help we could not maintain our level of service. 

Also Thank you to Swatara Twp. Commissioners, Rep. John Payne, & the State Fire Commissioners Office.  Without their support towards the Grants, done of these projects would be possible.

This afternoon Company 45 & Rescue 44 were dispatched to a MVA w/injuries on  N.67th & Jefferson St.  Upon arrival the Chief & Squad found a single occupant vehicle hit a parked car.   The occupant self extricated and refused any medical treatment.  The rescue was placed into service, and occupant was transported by PD.


 
Vehicle Fire Training

Today company 45 loaded up the rigs and headed south on 83 to Newberry Twp. for some vehicle fire training at Susquehanna Speedway Park.  Several new members were given the chance to fight a vehicle fire with more experienced firefighters showing them some tricks of the trade.  Much was learned by everyone in attendence.  After the cars were done burning the guys broke out the tools and had some rescue tool practice.  Special thanks to JKS Salvage and SSP for the cars and the use of the facility.

The once scrapped Harrisburg Holiday parade is now back on Thanks to the effort of citizens, local business's and especially the St. Patricks Day Parade Association.  The parade will be held on Saturday November 19th.  Engine 45 will be leaving the station at approx. 9:00 a.m. to head downtown to stage.

Attack 45 responds to assist company 39 @ Barn Fires

Early this morning the Attack was dispatched to assist Company 39 and several other companies at a multiple barn fire.  The attack crew was on the scene helping for approx 4 hrs. More info will be posted later

Tonite the Chief and a crew took the engine to the annual Paxtang Lions Club Halloween Parade.  After socializing with our peers, the Engine crew handed out candy to the kids along the route.  At the Judges stand the Lions club and PIP printing presented the Chief a framed picture of the Engine responding to a call in the 44-1 box during the Sept 7th flooding on Derry street.
